CrossFit is a fitness program that will change your life. By it’s definition, it uses “constantly varied, functional movement performed at a relative high intensity”. As a truly functional program, the difficulty level of our daily workouts (WODs) are designed to be increased or decreased, depending upon the individual. This makes them accessible to anyone.
Daily workouts could include things such as core conditioning, rowing, sprinting, gymnastics, lifting, etc. And all our workouts are designed to improve overall flexibility, strength, speed, endurance, and agility.
WOD is basically an abbreviation of Workout Of the Day. Each day there is a new workout, you can find them on our Members app and of course written on the board when you come in to work out.
The first CrossFit class will be an introductory class where you are taught the right movements and will take part in the WOD scaled appropriately for you. You will meet some of our community, you will learn some of the lingo and you will have a lot of fun.
Yes. The main idea behind CrossFit is that everyone can do it and that no matter your ability you can all workout in the same session. If there is a part of the workout that you cannot do or are worried to do, then we scale it appropriately. Even if you are injured you can almost always work around the injury by scaling the movements appropriately for you.
We know you may have a lot of choices on where to workout. What’s best… A treadmill at home? The gym down the street that is £25/month? A CrossFit membership? We’d actually encourage you to ask a different question. What are your goals? Personalised attention? Trained, professional coaches? Accountability? Working out with a group of like-minded people who cheer on your success? If the answer to any of the above is “yes”, then we’d encourage you to check us out.
CrossFit is for everyone, no one is too old or too out of shape. You will improve your strength and stamina by doing CrossFit, no matter where you start from. The workouts are always varied so they keep being fun while still challenging. Our coaches are well educated and will help guide you through every workout and question that you could possibly have.
It is so varied that you will never get bored. All the exercises work with multiple joints and use the body. All the movements are efficient and functional. CrossFitters aim to be ready for the unknown all the time so we train differently every day.
Cardio/Respiratory Endurance, Stamina, Strength, Flexibility, Power, Speed, Coordination, Agility, Balance, and Accuracy is a good way to measure your success. Your whole life gets easier, just walking up stairs and bringing home the shopping while holding a baby and keys will be an easy task. If you want to see numbers you can always step on a scale, take progress pictures of yourself or do a body fat measurement.
Definitely not! The CrossFit Aldermaston community is there to cheer you on, Crossfitters are all about support, in our gym everyone is welcome. Train for yourself and on your level and get praised for what you accomplished.
No! You are never too old to try CrossFit. Everything will be tailored appropriately for you. You just show up and do you best, even if you are 70 years old we guarantee that every single person in our gym will welcome you into the community and cheer you on.
You don’t need to be strong at all, you get strong by doing CrossFit. The coaches will help you decide what weights you should work with in the beginning and help you every step of the way.
Our coaches will always ask in every class if you have any injuries or anything they should be aware of before starting the class. If you have back problems for example the coach will help you find a way to reduce the strain on your back with a scaling option.
Scaling in CrossFit means adjusting the movement or intensity level to work the best for you. There is a scale for every movement and exercise. By being able to scale every exercise, CrossFit is something that every single person can do, at their level.
CrossFit Inc. holds a uniquely elegant solution to the greatest problem facing the world today: chronic disease. The CrossFit program—constantly varied high-intensity functional movement coupled with meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch, and no sugar—can give you a pass on chronic disease. If you are not sick, know that fitness provides a great margin of protection against the ravages of time and disease. Fitness is and should be “super-wellness.” To improve or preserve your health, do CrossFit.
You can attend all of our regularly timetabled sessions and open gym.
You can attend up to 2 sessions per day under the Unlimited and Standard memberships (number of sessions allowing).
If you’re just starting up, we recommend coming three days/week for your first couple weeks, then build to four, then five. Once you’re up to five days per week, we recommend building in two recovery days per week.
We offer limited open gym spaces for 1 hour per day under our unlimited membership only – we are stronger when we stand together and when we train together! Our programming is pretty good too. Open gym should be used to supplement our classes and we provide additional programming via our Members app that provides just that.
The WOD is a starting point, and each person will need to experiment to determine what “enough” means. Experienced athletes with specific competition goals might need additional work to improve their fitness, while beginners might need to reduce the volume of the WOD to optimise results. The exact amount of work can be determined with the assistance of one of our expert coaches. The demands of sport and active living will affect what you can do in each WOD, and you will need to balance your work/rest cycles to allow for recovery. In general, if you only do each day’s WOD, you will find yourself at an improved level of fitness.
Yes. Drop in sessions are for individuals who are suitably familiar and experienced in the required movements and intensity that will be encountered in our classes. If you are unsure please contact us for further information or to arrange a taster class.
You can attend any of our timetabled sessions apart from open gym under a drop-in. We are a sociable bunch and would love you to come and train with us.
We love nothing more than having visitors from other boxes come “throw down” with us!
If you are just passing through, we charge a drop in fee of £15 per day. If you will be in the area longer, please get in touch and we will sort something out for you.
No. We only have limited open gym sessions and spaces available under our Unlimited Membership option.
Every sport has a fan base, people who seem to live for the sport and only talk about the sport. Of course, CrossFit is one of them. You will want to talk about how fun it is and tell people about your progress. You’ll love your coach because of how they make you go harder and faster than you though you could possibly do, and your CrossFit buddies become your friends.
