A Tailored Approach To Training

Atomic Fitness Kids utilises the CrossFit Kids method for teaching CrossFit to children ages 3-18. Based on the principle of Mechanics, Consistency and then Intensity, we emphasise good movement throughout childhood and adolescence.

Consistently good mechanics translates to physical literacy, enhanced sports performance and fewer sports injuries for kids. Not only that, a vast body of research indicates that exercise is beneficial to cognitive function, which means consistent adherence to the program can have a positive impact on children’s academic achievement.

Resistance Training

Resistance training for children and adolescents is a subject of contention for many but the benefits of following a SAFE resistance training program for kids are many:

Muscle strength, Muscle power, Muscular endurance, Bone structure

Flexibility, Agility, Physical performance, Body composition

Cardiovascular health, Injury resistance, Psychosocial well-being, Promotion of positive exercise habits

FUN

Atomic Fitness Kids is meant to be BIG FUN for all ages. Broad-Inclusive-General fun. Fun means we provide an active alternative to sedentary pursuits, which means less childhood obesity and all-around better health for our children.

Further, the needs of primary age kids and secondary school rugby players differ by degree and not kind; our program is scalable for any age or experience level and accounts for the varied maturation status that can be found in a class full of kids.

Atomic Fitness Kids Coaches

Our kids coaches focus on reinforcing sound mechanics, educating proper behaviours, providing opportunities for success and long-term adherence. Safety during any physical activity is of utmost importance considering the adolescent skeleton is actively growing. Our program strives to prevent injuries due to accidents by actively honing skills such as accepting personal responsibility, working safely with others, following rules, and exhibiting etiquette…

While children and adolescents within the Atomic Fitness Kids program may lift, move, and play with various objects during the course of a class, when they perform the movements from the foundational series (squats, presses, and deadlifts) the mechanics of and consistency with the movement informs the load – Courtesy of CrossFit Inc.

Atomic Fitness Kids Program

We have been running Atomic Fitness Kids since July 2015 and have been teaching children and adolescents how fun fitness can be and creating a firm foundation of functional movement. There are 3 different classes within the program which are generalised by age;

Preschoolers (3-5 years old)

Kids (6-12 years old)

Teens (13-17 years old)

Although these classes are set out by age, it is NOT the age of your child that is the deciding factor for what class your child will attend. It is largely based on individual skill, athleticism, and maturity and is ultimately decided by the head coach to ensure your child is getting the most out of the CrossFit experience.

Schedule

Our Preschoolers and Kids program runs in blocks alongside the school term time, with some additional Pay as You Go (PAYG) holiday sessions and workshops.  Blocks are bookable in advance and we offer a sibling discount.

Note: Spaces allowing, it is possible to join any time in the term and the cost would be reduced by the sessions already missed.

Our Teens sessions run after school hours and run throughout the year.   There are a number of sessions to choose from including CrossFit and Teen Weighlifting. We have a Teen monthly membership or a block of 10 can be purchased for PAYG.

Please get in touch for more information and to arrange a FREE taster class.

Success Stories

Before children I had a reasonable level of fitness as I had run the London marathon. But nothing had grab me and made me want to train everyday. After two stress fractures in my ankle I didn’t recover too well as I had my 3 children at that point and did very little. I started touch rugby when my youngest was about 18months but then suffered from plantar fasciitis which led me to having injections etc. So I started at CrossFit when still injured but wanting to do something. My husband and 2 of my children were already doing CrossFit and I was able to take my 3 year old with me while I trained. Everything was scalable and my fitness has massively improved too. Today I ran 800m 3 times in a WOD the most I have done since my foot injury. I have also lost over a stone in weight. And am the fittest I have ever been. Despite some set backs I always want to go to the box. I’ve never had that before.

CrossFit Aldermaston is a brilliant training environment, with knowledgeable and enthusiastic coaches and a friendly fun group of members. I’d never tried CrossFit before visiting CFA but can happily say all of the stereotypes I was expecting do not exist here! The CFA team offer a positive environment to work your body and mind, tailored to your individual ability, that is above all else, fun!
